TGIF Bonnaroo.

(Examiner.com - June 19, 2009) My Friday morning at Bonnaroo began with a rude awakening. Sometime around three in the morning, a terrible storm had rendered my friend’s tent completely useless, after standing outside in the cold rain for I’m sure how long, he woke me up, and I invited him into my tent. In case you didn’t know, it rains almost every year at Bonnaroo, and it’s not the refreshing crisp rain that I’m used to. It is a dirty, muggy kind of rain that makes you hate yourself by the end of the day. After I failed to fall back asleep in the storm, I walked to a nearby tent that served as a breakfast café, and treated myself to a 6:00 am Swiss cheese omelet to the tune of $6. After graduating from Cleveland's Case Western Reserve University, Pittsburgh native Gregg Gillis went on to pursue a career in biomedical engineering, while maintaining sample-based remix composition as a hobby, performing for crowds of 15-30 on the weekends under his stage name, Girl Talk.

His 2006 album release, Night Ripper, earned international acclaim, and was widely considered a top album of 2006. In May 2007, the album's success led Gillis to quit his job as an engineer to pursue remix composition and live performance full-time.

Today, Girl Talk has been composing sample-based remixes for over eight years, and uses Adobe Audition and AudioMulch to continue to produce his best work, while increasing in popularity. His 2008 album, Feed the Animals, combines more than 300 samples in 50 minutes with as many as 12 samples used simultaneously.
